Our Fascination with Tentacles!

They appear in just about every horror Anime film or series, quite a bit of Manga, and recently into mainstream comics and films, and we find ourselves both repulsed by them but also fascinated about their probing of those innocent victims! I speak of course about tentacles!

Leaving aside their ability to open doors, pull down zippers, and generally do things many humans with a complete set of fingers find difficult, the power of these alien or supernatural limbs to explore our every orifice is genuinely terrifying, and yet, we watch with excited eyes as they set about their sexual deviancy. But we don't know why.

It's almost as if they hold a hypnotic sway over our senses, rather like the cobra's swaying is meant to confuse and weaken the will of its prey before striking. Or is it that the slime dripping phallic symbolism engages part of our dark Id and provokes even darker desires or needs?

Whatever the reason for the strange dichotomy of our reaction to tentacles may be, the fact is I don't think we will tire of their appearance any time soon...
